I started off by learning the simple stitches - half double crochet, etc., and before long I was a hat making machine! I kept on learning, and started working more complicated things from patterns. Then I started modifying patterns, testing for other designers and eventually started designing my own patterns. That’s a really simplistic way to sum up the last few years, but I literally could go on for days telling you all the details!

The next step in my journey is improving my knitting and Tunisian crochet skills, and of course starting to tech edit. If tech editing is something you’re interested in, find out more HERE!

Thanks for getting to know me a little better, and I hope you enjoy your time here at Capital Crochet!

~Janine :)

Hi there! I’m Janine, the yarn-obsessed maker behind Capital Crochet.

I first started crocheting as a kid with scrap yarn from my Mom and Gramma. They were both bistitchual (they could knit and crochet) and always had projects on the go! I didn’t have an appreciation for the wonderful world of yarn back then, but I could work the tightest rows of single crochet you ever did see.

When I was expecting my daughter Violet in 2014, I got to thinking about all the hats, scarves and mittens we had as kids. We played outside a lot in the winter, and we always had our choice of handmade winter wear to keep us warm and cozy. I wanted to be able to make things for Violet, so I picked up my hook and started learning more skills.
